History:It may be argued but the first recorded use of scarves dates back to ancient Rome where pieces of cloth were used as handkerchiefs. Eventually, Romans saw the practicality of bringing these around so they began to tie it to their waists or around their necks. Later on, around the 17th century, scarves were worn by Croatian mercenaries to distinguish the officers from the soldiers. The former would wear scarves of silk while the latter of simple cloth.
